From a 1920s pool hall to a family-friendly sports bar & grill - Waudby's has been a Russell landmark for generations.
The Waudby building is on the National Register for its distinctive Victorian-era commercial architecture. Built in 1885-86, it originally housed "The Square Hardware Store" and later became a pool hall in 1926 when Alfred Waudby purchased the building.
The building features two scenic murals painted in 1930 by a transient painter named "Gesser" - one depicting a mountain scene with a lake, and another a winter scene. These murals were restored by Rick Rupp in 2004.
Waudby's is locally owned and operated by Shanda and Brent Mooney, who have owned the business for fifteen years. Shanda was actually part of Waudby's history long before she bought the business - she was a server and bartender here in her younger years.
In 2019, business growth required more space, so they connected both historical buildings to provide more seating for families and friends. Today, Waudby's serves as both a community gathering place and a rest stop for travelers along I-70.
